PRESS · A · DENT believes that if:
We help people get started in the paintless dent removal business, and ... |
Our program offers attractive income potential for a Craftsman and his/her family, and ... |
We provide an excellent career opportunity for someone to operate their own business, |
| ... then we will both share long term success. |
Our bottom line is we don't want your money, we want your commitment to a successful new career.
How is this possible? First, we are willing to take a significant up front financial risk to train you in the paintless dent removal (PDR) business. We provide an extensive personalized training program, most of which is hard work in a shop, and requires up to ten weeks of concentrated effort and commitment. During training, we pay you a salary, and expenses. Field training, fully paid for, is also included in our training program.
Your research into this business should tell you that most major PDR companies start with training programs of similar length. However, unlike some of the other major companies, we never train more than three people at a time. When you investigate our competition, ask how many people they train at once. Do you think your chances of success are better in a class of ten, twenty or more or would you prefer to be one of only a few individuals being taught by an experienced instructor?
Still other companies will tell you that you can learn PDR in a short one or two week training program (sometimes combined with touch-up, windshield repair and/or some other vendor service) or by purchasing tools and watching a video tape. If you believe this, you should take your money and buy one of their programs -- and good luck. We have a substantial financial and personal stake in making sure you are properly trained and prepared for success. Remember, we don't make any money unless you are a success for yourself first.
What do we look for? Honesty, integrity and self-motivation are as important to us as any prior skill or experience you may have. Historically, less than half of our Craftsmen have any auto mechanical or body repair experience and many came from businesses totally unrelated to automobiles. Sales skills are, however, among the key requirements for success. In the end, your success will depend on your sales ability, how fast your technical mastery of the process progresses, and how hard you work.
What is the business like? PRESS · A · DENT's service is performed on a mobile basis, at the customer's location, and the average wholesale bill for one repair is around $35. A typical repair usually takes less than an hour to accomplish and our primary customers are car dealers. However, this service is also attractive to retail customers and PRESS · A · DENT services individual vehicle owners too.
PRESS · A · DENT Craftsmen use a set of custom tools and a confidential process to manually remove small dents, hail damage, door dings, and other forms of exterior body damage from cars and trucks. This is accomplished without the use of conventional body damage repair techniques like hammering, grinding, body putty, sanding and then painting the vehicle. Although this is a manual process, and sometimes you have to get your hands a little dirty, this is generally a "light duty" type of work and as such golf shirts and work slacks are a Craftsman's typical uniform.
Each Craftsman is trained by PRESS · A · DENT and then licensed to personally sell and perform paintless dent repairs within a designated area. Craftsmen are self-employed independent contractors who operate and manage their own pricing, work schedules, sales appointments, and virtually all business activities (except billing). Successful Craftsmen say that the freedom to control their own destiny is one of the most attractive aspects of being a PRESS · A · DENT Craftsman. Ultimately, however, your earnings and success will depend on your technical proficiency, your sales ability and how self-motivated you are to make money.
What do Craftsmen get paid? The short answer is; most of the revenue you generate. After the ten-week salaried training phase of our program, you become an independent contractor paid on a commission basis. Commission levels start at 95% of billings in order to help you get established in the PDR business. Then, over several months, commission levels gradually phase in to the long-term base commission level for your geographic area. In addition, higher commission levels are available for major markets that are, relatively speaking, more competitive. Although specific commissions vary by market, systemwide commission levels significantly exceed 65%.
What about tools and anything else I need to be in business? After training, a complete set of tools (along with toll free customer number, pager, business insurance and everything a Craftsman needs to be in business) is available from the company, at the Craftsman's option, for a modest monthly cost of approximately $150 per month. Most Craftsmen use their own vehicle for business purposes. However, if a craftsman needs a vehicle for his/her business, small pick-ups with bed covers and PRESS · A · DENT decals are available for lease on a monthly basis from the company at preferred rates.
Procedurally, Craftsmen mail invoices for work performed to the billing office at the end of each week and are then paid semi-monthly on a draw and commission arrangement based on the work they turn in. The company handles all billing functions including sending customers monthly statements. This frees Craftsmen to concentrate on sales and service of their business.
What's the catch? Assuming you share our philosophy of long term mutual benefit, there isn't one. We do require that a formal, and legally binding, agreement be signed by both parties prior to training. This formal agreement includes stringent non-competition and trade secret protection provisions for the paintless dent removal business. You will also be required to take a physical and drug test. Quite honestly, given our willingness to make a big financial investment in you, we don't want someone who's goal is to be trained by a quality paintless dent removal company and then go off on their own (or worse, go to work for a competitor). If this is what you are looking for, please contact one of our competitors and see if they're interested in you. We aren't.
What's the risk? The risk is that you might try a new career in a field that turns out not to be for you. In that case, we have made an ill-advised investment. That's unfortunate, but that's the business we're in. You, on the other hand, haven't made any financial investment. In fact, you got paid during training. Provided you honor the terms of our Agreement (e.g. don't try to learn the business from us, for free, and then go work for someone else or try to compete with us), you can walk away without financial obligation.
